Fused Silica is a synthetic amorphous silicon dioxide that can be made to have outstanding optical and physical characteristics:

  • excellent homogeneity
  • bubble & inclusion free
  • very low stress birefringence
  • good for transmission from the deep UV to the near IR
  • good optical properties in three directions
  • thermally stable with a low coefficient of linear expansion
  • high working temperature
  • Knoop hardness 200gm load 500kg/mm2
